Beirut, January 7th, 2008 - Maxime Chaya Plants the Lebanese Flag on the South Pole

 

After rooting the Lebanese flag and Bank Audi’s name at the summit of Mount Everest in May 2006, sportsman Maxime Chaya has marked yet another milestone on his astonishing route, with his successful quest of the South Pole - Antarctica, the highest, driest, coldest, windiest and emptiest place on Earth.

After 47 days of unassisted and unsupported skiing (hauling his gear, food and fuel during the whole journey on a sled) across Antarctica, a challenge very few have taken up to date, Chaya - Corporate Ambassador of Bank Audi - proudly planted his country’s flag at the South Pole, early on December 28, 2007.

Chaya’s conquest comes as part of “The Three Poles” project which began with his thriving ascent of Mount Everest, the Earth’s “third pole” as mountaineers call it, and will end with a trip to the North Pole in spring 2009 – an adventure casting him to the rank of just a handful of people to have achieved the seemingly impossible. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s national hero will dedicate all his efforts to this winter’s star project with Bank Audi,“La Patrouille des Cèdres”, an international ski touring event to take place every year in Lebanon, starting March 2008.

Maxime Chaya has been living Bank Audi’s motto, “Grow Beyond Your Potential”, ever since the start of the “Seven Summits” project in 2003, and was crowned with an “Order of Civic Merit” in 2006, when the project ended.
With this new accomplishment, Chaya and Bank Audi have brought another testimony that nothing is out of reach, and that embarking with a strong will to succeed, learning from failures and always striving to reach perfection, are the key to growing beyond one’s potential.

Chaya arrived at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport safe and sound, on Wednesday, January 2, at 7:00 pm, where he was warmly welcomed by family, friends and supporters.
